Quilt & Art Festival

Friends of the Arboretum (FOA) will present a Quilt & Art Festival on the grounds of Governor Jim Hogg Park at 100 Gov. Hogg Parkway, Quitman, Texas 75783 on May 8, 2010 from 10:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. Artist applications are now being solicited and accepted for this one day event to highlight regional fine artist. The presenters of this festivalĀ are calling for applications from painters, sculptors, fine woodworkers, potters, weavers, jewelry makers and other fine artisans and craftsmen who wish to sell and showcase their wares amidst the backdrop of spectacular and colorful quilts that will be on display. Local musicians have also been invited to perform in informal settings throughout the park, as well as on the porch of the Historic Stinson House.

The purpose of this first-time ever event has a dual objective of promoting all types of cultural arts in East Texas, with concession and exhibit space proceeds to benefit growth of the Governor Hogg Park Arboretum and Botanical Gardens. Headline sponsors of the event are the City of Quitman, Stitchin' Heaven and The Greater Quitman Area Chamber of Commerce. Other sponsorships are currently being negotiated, and there are opportunities available for both monetary and in-kind support of this inaugural event.

Artist display space is available on a first-come-first-serve basis and these affordable spots are expected to go quickly. Another reason to secure space soon is to be included in free promotional opportunities as the event is advertised. Applications will be available on line at woodcountyarboretum.com and at the Quitman Chamber. Deadline for space reservation is March 5, 2010.
